Fundations in music class
Some of these teachers hate fundations, but I love it. I think it's great to have phonics back in the public schools after a several-years absence. It's nice to have kids sounding out their words again, instead of just memorizing sight words. I mean, it's FUN-damental to know how letters sound, right? Anyway a great way to show you are teaching literacy in the classroom is simply incorporate the fundations into your lyric board work. I've included a picture- I go through the lyrics with the students, and have them circle and identify the sounds they are learning to sound out and look for in their reading. A very cross-curricular and fun activity.
